Shalom Christian Birthing Home - Construction Antipolo City Philippines
The Shalom Christian Birthing Home invites you to join ACTION's team, delivering hope among the neglected poor.
A Vision is born
Shalom Christian Birthing Home was started by ACTION missionary, Mavis Orton. She is a nurse/midwife from England, who came to the Philippines in 1986. Mavis had observed that there was a high mortality rate among the mothers giving birth and newborn babies. A vision arose to develop a place where good maternity care could be available to those with minimum finances. In January of 1992, Shalom Birthing Home was started in Mavis' home. ACTION missionary and nurse, Cindy Gingerich joined Mavis in 2002
Birth of a Team
We now have a good team of midwives and nurses: ACTION missionaries Mavis Orton (midwife), Cindy Gingerich (nurse) and midwives Maricel, Maricor, Benneth, Analyn. But we desire more missionary midwives to join the team.
Growing Pangs and Anxiously Awaiting the Arrival
When the clinic first opened, eight babies were born a month, now approximately 120-150 babies are born each month. We have limited space as we have only 2 rooms for our pre-natal, post-natal, check-ups and deliveries. Our desire and prayer is to build a larger facility to house a better birthing clinic that would provide check-ups, deliveries of babies, classrooms, and a laboratory. Funds were raised and 1,165 square meters of land was purchased for the new building. Now we are praying for the funds to build the new Birthing Home.
The new facility will provide the following services:
Mothers:
Pre-natal check-up
Delivery of baby
Post-natal check-up
Parent skills teaching
Family Planning
Relaxation Classes
Community follow-up
Laboratory Facilities
Babies:
Post-natal check-ups
Immunizations
Well baby clinic
