Current Ministry: working with war-torn, traumatized people, including children, refugees, former child soldiers/mothers, and orphans
Jerry and Candis began their ministry in Papua New Guinea in the beginning of the 1980s. They then directed Grassroots Leadership Training in Mexico for 20 years. Their Mexican ministry also included film evangelism with a strong emphasis on children's outreach ministry including street children and orphanage work. Jerry and Candis have been married 38 years and have been in full-time ministry for 32 of those years. They have two grown children and five grandchildren.
Prior to becoming full-time foreign missionaries they pastored churches, worked with Youth for Christ, conducted a coffeehouse ministry and were on staff at US Center for World Missions. Jerry and Candis merged Grassroots Leadership Training with ACTION's Leadership & Pastoral Development ministry in 2000 and were ACTION's first missionaries to Uganda, Africa. They resettled in July, 2003 from Kampala to Gulu, Northern Uganda, called the 'war zone'. Here they work with war-torn, traumatized people, especially children, as well as ministering to pastors in Northern Uganda and Southern Sudan with Grassroots Leadership Training. They also do Children Worker's Training and training to meet the plight of AIDS/HIV victims. There are three dozen Ugandans on Staff.
