Minnesota Current Ministry: Now in Uganda, beginning language training and ministries working with churches in evangelism, discipleship, church-planting, ministry to orphans, pastors, and HIV/AIDS-affected persons and families Mike arrived in Manila on March 20, 1991, studied Tagalog in Lipa City, Batangas, until October 1991, and then had TB and was laid up until March 1992. He completed language study in September 1992. Mike ministered with Urban Street Ministries (now Street Impact Team) in Malibay, Pasay City, a squatter area where he also lived, until 1995, and worked with a local church there. From 1996 to 2006, he ministered in Divisoria, Tondo, Manila, where he lived, planted a small church (Providence Baptist Church), discipled men, and ministered to street children and the urban poor. In 2002, he set up Asia Pacific Family Foundation Inc. which established an orphan-home, educational assistance for squatter children, and livelihood programs for the poor. In 2003, he helped plant another church, this time in Lipa City, Batangas (Santa Cruz Baptist Church). He also helped equip pastors and church workers primarily through friendship, pastors’ conferences, and literature distribution. Mike is from Minneapolis, Minnesota. God opened his heart to the Gospel while serving with the United States Marine Corps, through the ministry of the Navigators. He also served on staff with the Navigators at Glen Eyrie, Colorado Springs, Colorado. He came on with ACTION in 1990 after the Lord sent Doug Nichols to his church. Rebecca heard Doug Nichols preach at a church in Manila in July 2005 and started praying about Africa. She joined ACTION in February 2007. Rebecca has been counseling and discipling women in her church since February 1993. In January 1997, she left a 20-year career as a human resources management professional and became a full-time church worker at Higher Rock Christian Church in Quezon City (where she served until February 2008). In December 1998, she set up Hagios House Ministries with six women co-laborers. It included the Bible Training Home, a discipleship dormitory for young adult women; Immanuel Family School, a Christian preschool ministering the Gospel to a largely Roman Catholic community; and Sola Scriptura, a book ministry promoting biblical Christian books for a God-honoring life and ministry. Rebecca has ministered to other churches in the Philippines and abroad through Bible studies, seminars, and retreats for pastors’ wives and other women. In 2005, Rebecca edited FaithWalk, a quarterly Christian digest published by her association of churches, the Communion of Christian Ministries (CCM). Before that she was a contributor to and copy editor of the magazine. She has also served as the finance and administrative officer of two churches as well as CCM. Rebecca is currently pursuing her Certificate in Biblical Counseling at The Master’s College in Santa Clarita, California. Mike and Rebecca were married in May, 2007. They desired to serve the Lord in Uganda, ministering to orphans and HIV/AIDS-affected persons and families, plant churches, disciple men and women whom the Lord will bring into their lives, particularly pastors and their wives. In April, 2010, Mike and Rebecca made the move to Kampala, Uganda, and are now busy in settling in to their new surroundings and preparing for language training and ministry. Pray that the Lord will assist them to adapt well and quickly, and that they may continue to glorify God in their life, marriage, and ministry!
